Zeta Gamma Sigma Sorority

Since 1955

Zeta was founded on March 17, 1955 (St. Patrick's Day) at SUNY Potsdam. The sisters started accepting Clarkson women in 1972. The sorority was recognized by Clarkson until 1987 when the university stopped recognizing all of the SUNY Potsdam sororities. Women from both schools still join the sorority today.

The sisters purchased the former University Hall at 6 Leroy Street in the fall of 1957 and their current house at 24 Main Street in the spring of 1963.  6 Leroy burned to the ground in the mid-60s.

  1. I saw that an alum sister posted that the pin was only worn by the founders? What do the current sisters wear as a pin?

I am super curious! My aunt was a Zeta. :)

    1. Any initiated Zeta may wear the pin. We only have a very few of them because the company that made them closed years ago. Therefore, they are not commonly worn and treated with great care and respect. Zeta actives and alumni wear letters - clothing with our Greek letters on them. Only initiated sisters and honorary members may wear our letters.

    2. My maternal grandmother is Ara Bull. I just found her picture in a SUNY year book on the NY Heritage site. We never knew she was in a sorority. Really cool!
